Russia and American Capitalism
|
Here is a statue of Lenin still standing with a giant Sanyo advertisement in the back. An odd mix of communism and capitalism. The below statues were in the Graveyard of Fallen Monuments. Below is Lenin where he belongs -- in a run-down trash heap. Below is a statue of Stalin. In the background are a bunch of rocks with faces carved into them behind the wire -- very symbolic of his reign of terror.
This is the burial place of Nikita Sergeyevich Khrushchev. He was buried at the Novodevichy Convent and Monastery along with Andrei Gromyko, and other famous Soviets. It is interesting to see all these atheists buried on religious grounds. Also in this cemetery are a bunch of famous writers and artists, such as Anton Chekhov.
